Doggie Doors / Pet Doors installed in St. George, Utah

Pet doors sure are a convenience and, in my opinion, save energy in more ways than one.  First, your "pup" (I call even the old ones pups...they like that.) can get out to do their business when they need to without "asking" you to drop what you're doing to let them out.

The second thing is noticed mostly during the summer months in St. George.  If you have to open your people sized door to let your pup out and then back in again, you lose quite a bit of 75 degree inside air to the 108 degree outside air.  Plus the heat blast in your face is like an oven.  Yikes!

When you decide to get a door, there are some things to consider.

  • First, how big is your dog?

    • Second, do you want it through your door, wall, or maybe a sliding glass door kit?
Pet Door, ExteriorIf it's the wall, make sure to get the proper wall extension kit.  Not all doors come with it.  I also recommend a door with interior and exterior flaps like the Ruff Weather Pet Door from The Home Depot for added protection from the elements or the PetSafe Pet Doors from Lowe's.  These are only a couple of many available, but you can check them out in the store or just research online.

Also, look around for things to avoid, such as electrical outlets & switches, door & window frames, and plumbing fixtures.

    • Third, do you want to install it yourself?  There are, of course, instructions and a list of tools required that come with the doggie doors.  You can even check out some great YouTube videos.  But, if you're not comfortable doing it yourself or don't have the tools, I know someone who would be happy to do it for you:-)

There may be a few other things to consider such as price, quality, type cat door and doggie door in the closetof wall or door it will go through, etc. that you can ask and clarify while you're at the store looking. But this gives you some food for thought.

If you need a hand installing your "doggie" door in the St. George, Utah area, give me a call to schedule a time.
